About us!

We are Leyla Borasino & Eliana Dykes. We are freshman at DeBakey HSHP, and members of HOSA Chapter 2007. Our mission with this project and event is to spread awareness about mental health and give help and strategies to those who need them.

Hi, I'm Eliana Dykes. I am a freshman at Debakey HSHP, and I want to be an OBGYN. Some things I enjoy doing are reading, tarot, making jewelry, pointe, dance in general, acting, swimming, and playing chess. I wanted to do this project and convinced Leyla because I believe that high schooler's mental health is not dealt with well in media and schools.. I think this is an issue that needs to be solved because "Among high school-age youths aged 14–18 years, 1,952 suicides occurred in 2021, making suicide the third leading cause of death for this age group (2021 rate = 9.0 per 100,000 population). Suicide accounted for approximately one fifth of deaths (18.6%) among this age group" (CDC). This is such a huge issue and I really wanted to bring a change to that.

Hi, my name is Leyla Borasino! Some things I like to do for fun include running (specifically sprinting), drawing, swimming, playing volleyball, reading, and writing. I also like listening to rap music and chilling with my friends. I believe that mental health is extremely important for overall health, and that it isn't talked about enough!
